LA Times Shows Where Music Money Is January 7, 2007

The LA Times compiles its annual top 10 in North American music by combining tour revenues with CD sales. So this is the state of the art? Hmmm. You think teens rule? Or Hip Hop? Or radio? Think again:
The Rolling Stones
Tim McGraw/Faith Hill
Rascal Flatts
Kenny Chesney
Madonna
Barbra Streisand
Celine Dionne
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bon Jovi
Nickelback
True, for these artists, the big money is in touring rather than recording. Only three on this list generated more album sales than ticket sales: Rascal Flatts, the Chili Peppers, and Nickelback. That might have something to do with relative “newness.” Oh, and the LA Times didn’t count digital (but that wouldn’t have changed the list).
