Possibly the First Internet to TV Crossover? January 15, 2007

There have been precious few Internet-originated media or entertainment properties that translated to traditional media. This one might have legs.

Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution has sold upcoming entertainment news magazine “TMZ” on the Fox-owned television station group. The deal had been expected (TelevisionWeek, Jan. 15) and Fox outlets in markets including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are now slated to begin carrying the half-hour series in fall 2007.

Actually, TMZ was mostly done by TV talent (ex-People’s Court and Celebrity Justice) at Time Warner Telepictures, not by AOL — arguably, it spun off of Celebrity Justice. But meanwhile, don’t blame the Interweb for tabloid celebrity-mongering. Just the R-rated stuff.
