Bad Idea May 4, 2007Posted by David Card in Media.
Here we go again.
- Stung by the loss of Internet advertising firm DoubleClick to Google last month, Microsoft has intensified its pursuit of a deal with Yahoo!, asking the company to re-enter formal negotiations, The Post has learned.
This would be a brutally difficult integration, with way too many overlapping services, brands, and audiences. Neither has off-line media assets, which would actually make things interesting. And neither one has proven their search technology or marketplace can keep up with Google. Ever wonder why no one talks about putting NBC and ABC together to take on CBS?
AOL, MySpace, and Google would laugh all the way to the bank. At least for a while. The Post’s sources are bankers, the only folks who actually prosper from this kind of thing.
