Cool kids in Paris and Helsinki are far less plugged in than Amuhricans — to earbuds or headphones, that is — when they’re on the street. Possible explanations:

– It’s cold in Helsinki, and not earbud-friendly
– Portable music is not as big a deal in these cities as it is in US coastal burgs (NYC, SF, LA)
– Americans are rude and self-involved
– MP3 players and music phones are wicked expensive in Euros
